Master of Arts in Teaching Degrees - Professional Studies

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degrees are designed for talented professionals from diverse career backgrounds who have non-education baccalaureate degrees and want to earn initial Louisiana teacher certification and a Master’s degree. Persons earning certification through the MAT will meet the requirements for becoming a “highly qualified” educator.

The MAT program is offered in two pathways: Professional Studies (online course delivery) and Practitioner Teacher Program or PREP (hybrid course delivery).

Candidates enrolled in the MAT Professional Studies program complete 33-39 hours of graduate coursework, including a one year internship in Teaching. All courses are offered via Internet.  Applicants may begin the program in the summer, fall, or spring semester.

Candidates enrolled in the MAT PREP program complete 33 hours of graduate coursework including nine hours in the summer, six hours in both the fall and spring semesters (internship and seminar) during the following school year.  Finally, they complete 12 additional graduate hours to complete the MAT degree.  Applicants for the PREP program must begin the program at the first of the summer term.
