It is not a stretch to say that one of the most compelling aspects of academic life is the opportunity to become immersed in research that stirs questions. Faculty members in the College of Education strive to advance knowledge in ways that can make a difference in teaching, learning and community participation. Through their research endeavors, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been generated by faculty-led research projects that have not only generated money for the university, but also have resulted in an expansion of what we know about educating.
The value of research goes far beyond the world of academics. Policy makers, practitioners, professional, politicians and the public use research to guide and evaluate policies and services. To that end, faculty is committed to shaping policies, guiding practices, and enhancing knowledge through research interest in each discipline represented within the College. As one of the three components of faculty evaluation, research takes on new meaning for those who sincerely are interested in testing ideas and gathering information that may result in increased student achievement, better school organization, more effective classroom management or any of a myriad of other educational issues facing society today. Our capacity to expand and apply research is limitless; therein is the excitement surrounding a healthy academic research environment. Creative interdisciplinary projects and collaborations between faculty and student will continue to shape and influence our world.
