The Educational Leadership (EDL) program at Northwestern State University (NSU) prepares an individual for administrative opportunities in K-12 education. The degree program comprises EDL courses and an internship experience, all focusing on the competencies and skills defined by the Louisiana Board of Regents and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC). Graduates of the program will qualify for a Louisiana initial Level One administration license.
The Educational Leadership program at NSU is nationally approved by the Educational Leadership Constituency Council (ELCC), a learned society of the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
For those seeking admission to the EDL program after fall 2006 , please submit the following to NSU's Graduate School (1) an application for admission (http://graduateschool.nsula.edu), (2) documentation of GRE scores (minimum of 800; 750 with stipulations), (3) documentation of a teaching license, and (4) official transcript(s) of undergraduate work or degree earned. In addition, the following items are required for EDL program admission and must be presented to the Coordinator of Graduate Programs in the College of Education (1) two attribute checklists completed by a principal/superintendent, (2) an EDL writing essay to the following question, “What is your vision of the school leader in American public schools in the 21 st century?”, and (3) an interview by EDL faculty.
