College of Education Alumni Advisory Board

Since its inception in 1884 as Louisiana Normal, thousands of outstanding educators have received their degrees from Northwestern and have established productive careers in the field of education. As a result of this, a large and supportive alumni base has been established.

The College of Education Alumni Advisory Board was organized to provide opportunities for alumni to become involved in numerous activities sponsored by the College. The advisory board has – and will continue to – structure ways in which education alumni can support the mission of the College and reduce the workload of its dedicated faculty.

Projects initiated by the Alumni Advisory Board include:

  • Establishing “Friends of the Old School House”
  • Providing research and professional development funds to support faculty
  • Providing assistance in recruiting and retaining students majoring in education
  • Recruiting alumni for participation in Homecoming activities
  • Providing assistance for accreditation, NCATE and SACS
  • Seeking alumni financial support to establish academic scholarships for education majors
  • Nominating and selecting members for inclusion in the College of Education’s “Hall of Distinguished Educators” and “Friends of Education”
